Firstly, the highest-ranked golfer in the world who teed it up last week was Englishman John Parry, who started the week at #93. The only other one in the Top 100 was France’s Romain Langasque at #97, with SA’s Shaun Norris next at 103rd. I always suspected that it would not be that strong a field by any stretch of the imagination, as the defending champion and other LIV players were in Hong Kong this weekend, and our top players on the PGAT were at Arnie’s Invitational at Bay Hill. It wasn’t quite the finish we all wanted on Sunday, but the end result was great for us SA golfing fans when Dylan Naidoo took the 2025 version of the Investec SA Open in a playoff on the 18th hole with Englishman Laurie Canter after the rain once again flooded Durban Country Club, rendering the course unplayable and leading to the cancellation of the final round. I’m really looking forward to seeing this week’s SA Open on TV as it’ll be my first look at Durban Country Club’s new layout since it was revamped a few years ago. The club and course were revamped when Jonsson Workwear owner Nick Jonsson took over and made the club private and exclusive, and they spent a little on revamping the course, and lots on fixing the terrible drainage that had damaged the great course countless times over the years.
